ARCH 1020: LESSONS IN MAKING
INSTRUCTOR: SANDA ILIESCU
This is the first fundamentals course, where we explore the delights and dilemmas of design. Projects ranged from drawing, sketching and painting to constructing fields, collages, sculptures, and also architectural compositions. Through diagramming and analyzing concepts we seek to answer fundamental questions about design. Different projects included fields, object and shape analysis, drafting, mapping, and development of a pavilion.
As a TA/discussion leader I co-led two 8-10 student groups in weekly 2-hour studio time where we pinned-up our work, went over the weekly projects, and learned new methods of working. It allowed for group activities to further enhance the work, in addition to personal crits in order to offer guidance that would spark their creativity and keep pushing their projects in the right direction.
