ARCH 1030: FOUNDATION STUDIO I INSTRUCTORS: ANSELMO CANFORA + CHARLES SPARKMAN This Foundation Studio serves as a progessive step to further build upon the skills learned in ARCH 1020, being the first exposure to the studio environment and culture. Students develop their skills and learn new techniques while being exposed to digital software like AdobeCS and Rhino 3D. Consisting of 3 main projects, we met in regular studio sessions and worked alongside critics, to give students personal desk crits and oversee the development of their projects. We explored, in more depth, issues in architecture as scale and measuring, by utilizing the School’s own Campbell Hall as grounds for a detailed architectural analysis. We explored several methods of architectural representation from physical to digital and finally, engaged in making by building full-scale projects that resulted in an overnight student community. Each pavilion is completely unique as students designed not only the program and appearance, but also the methods of construction, while researching and analyzing several materials and their qualities and constraints.
