X PATTERN CUBE

X Pattern Cube FALL 2011 INSTRUCTOR: MICHAEL BEAMAN This project started as an analysis of patterns with a focus on understanding the limits and possibilities of parameters and constraints in design. In this case it was primarily the material, paper, that was applied to a modular exploration. A wide range of patterns were analyzed from biological, chemical, geological, to designed, manufactured, and ornamental. These patterns were to serve as inspiration to be later re-drawn, re-diagramed, and re-thought. Patterns ranging from anything as peacock feathers to bubbles and Islamic art, it became an introduction to parametric design as one discovered parameters and conditions within pattern structure and development. The resulting pattern, became a result of mixing and matching previous patterns. Looking at the organization and connections, we later had to reconfigure the patterns to form a pattern 3Dmensional structure.
